After birth, the hospital issues the "Declaration of Live Birth" (DNV) — the essential document needed to register the newborn at the notary office.

⚠️ You have only 15 days from birth to register the child at the notary office (extends to 3 months in remote areas). Registration and the first certificate are free by constitutional guarantee.

📋 Issuing the birth certificate

The child is registered at the notary office and the official Brazilian birth certificate is issued — one of the most important documents for the newborn in Brazil.
